flopped against Miami. It just wasnt inten
Enviado por: Bellroll33 - 05-15-2019, 03:42 AM - Foro: Proponer palabras nuevas - Sin respuestas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Once again, Florida flopped against Miami. It just wasnt intentional this time around. The 12th-ranked Gators dominated just about every statistical category -- including turnovers, and that ultimately was what decided everything. Florida turned the ball over five times, came up empty on four red-zone trips and wound up losing 21-16 to the Hurricanes on Saturday in whats widely expected to be the last time the one-time traditional rivals meet for a long, long time. "I cant give it to Miami," Gators offensive lineman Jonotthan Harrison said. "It is on us." Stephen Morris threw two first-quarter touchdown passes to put Miami ahead, and the onslaught of Gator mistakes ensured that the Hurricanes stayed there. The win almost certain assures that the Hurricanes -- dogged for the last 26 months by a still-unresolved NCAA probe -- will return to the AP Top 25 for the first time since 2010. "Its been such a hard road," Miami coach Al Golden said. "Weve just been battling this thing and obviously theyre one of the teams theyve been battling during this thing. I think you guys can figure that out. It was just a very cathartic moment. It was a great moment for our guys, all those guys that not only chose the University of Miami during this but stood there and fought." In 1971, the Gators executed whats forever known as the "Florida Flop," when the defence fell to the ground and let Miami score, just so the offence could get the ball back and allow John Reaves to break Jim Plunketts record for NCAA career passing yards. This one will just go down as an all-day flop. Jeff Driskel completed 22 of 33 passes for a career-best 291 yards and a late touchdown for Florida (1-1), which had gotten off to 2-0 starts in each of the previous eight seasons. But he had two interceptions, fumbled once and was stopped on a fourth-down try for another giveaway, all part of a messy effort by the Gators. "It started with me," Driskel said. "I was careless with the ball." Duke Johnson added a 2-yard touchdown run for a 21-9 lead with 3:29 left for Miami (2-0), which has won four straight dating back to last season, the longest such streak for the Hurricanes since 2008. The offensive numbers were ridiculously one-sided, in favour of the Gators. Florida outgained Miami 413-212, had a 22-10 edge in first downs, outran the Hurricanes 122-50, enjoyed nearly a 2-to-1 edge in time of possession and held Miami to an abysmal 1-for-11 effort on third-down chances. And the Gators still lost, only blaming themselves afterward. "You cannot keep shooting yourself in the foot, especially on the road," Florida coach Will Muschamp said. Miami had 143 yards in the first quarter, averaging 7.9 yards per play. The rest of the way: 69 yards, 2.0 per play. It was Miamis lowest yardage total in a victory since Oct. 26, 1996, when the Hurricanes managed only 162 against then-No. 12 West Virginia. "There was nothing easy on that field," Golden said. "For either team." For Florida, that was particularly true when it got inside the Miami 20. The one touchdown Florida had in the red zone was a gift, set up by a blocked punt in the first quarter. The other Florida trips deep into Miami territory ended thusly: -- Interception by Miamis Rayshawn Jenkins. -- Driskel stopped on downs by Miamis Denzel Perryman and Olsen Pierre. -- Fumble by Trey Burton that was forced by the Hurricanes Jimmy Gaines. -- Field goal by Floridas Austin Hardin. -- Interception by Miamis Tracy Howard. "Im putting it on myself," Burton said. "I made many mistakes." Driskel was sacked by Miamis Tyriq McCord deep in Florida territory with 4:32 left, setting up the touchdown by Johnson that figured to put the game out of reach. Still, the Gators had a chance. Driskel -- who also ran for a score -- found Solomon Patton for a 21-yard touchdown with 2:08 left to get the Gators within five. Miami recovered the ensuing onside kick and wound up punting the ball away, but Florida went nowhere at the end, and Miami had a celebration that was long in the making. The Hurricanes had lost 12 of their last 14 games against teams ranked No. 12 or higher, often getting blown out. "This is why you come to The U, to play the Florida Gators," McCord said. The Gators reached the Miami 28 on the games opening drive, then wound losing the ball on a fumble by Matt Jones. Morris took advantage, finding Herb Waters with a 7-yard touchdown pass that opened the scoring. Morris connected with Phillip Dorsett for a 52-yard score and a 14-6 lead for Miami late in the quarter, becoming the first quarterback to have two opening-period TD throws against the Gators since JaMarcus Russell did it for LSU in 2005. After the Morris-to-Dorsett play, not counting an end-of-half kneeldown, the Hurricanes ran six plays in about 17 minutes. The Gators ran 30 in that span, and didnt get a single point out of them. "The first series we didnt do a very good job," Muschamp said. "Once we got some things corrected, we played a lot better. ... At the end of the day, we gave them too much momentum. We gave them what they needed." Erik McCoy Jersey . -- Jonathan Vilmas season is over and his future on the football field is in doubt. Cheap New Orleans Saints Jerseys . The 16-year-old student from Smith Falls, Ont., says she has more tour experience now than when she competed at the 2013 Womens U.S. Open, where she made the cut but finished tied for 59th. Her first major appearance came in just her second career tour event. Henderson will be a little more relaxed at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, which begins Thursday at Mission Hills Country Club. "This will be my fifth (tour event), so its just a lot more comfortable being around the big stars," she said Wednesday on a conference call. "They know me a little bit better and call me by name, which is pretty cool. "My nerves have calmed down a little bit and I know what to expect, where I was a little unsure in the beginning at the U.S. Oppen.dddddddddddd" The event comes with a US$300,000 first prize and $2-million total purse although as an amateur, that doesnt matter to Henderson. Shes one of 10 amateurs invited to compete. Henderson, the sixth-ranked womens amateur golfer in the world, will be joined by 22-year-old pro Rebecca Lee-Bentham of Richmond Hill, Ont., the only other Canadian in the field. Henderson has yet to finish high school but has already verbally committed to a scholarship at the University of Florida. She hopes to crack the top three in the world amateur rankings by the end of the summer. Older sister Brittany will caddy for her at Mission Hills, as she did at the U.S. Open. Henderson credits her sister, whos also a golfer, for being a role model. "I grew up watching her play and wanted to be exactly like her," she said.   erious doubt. The Indians playoff chance
Enviado por: Bellroll33 - 05-15-2019, 03:28 AM - Foro: Proponer palabras nuevas - Sin respuestas

CLEVELAND -- Justin Mastersons health is in serious doubt. The Indians playoff chances are just as iffy. Masterson was pulled from his start in the second inning with soreness in his left side and Clevelands hitters stayed in a collective slump Monday night with a 7-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, one of the teams the Indians are scrapping with for the AL wild card. Masterson felt tightness in his side in the first inning, and after applying a heat ointment between innings, Clevelands All-Star ace took the mound in the second thinking he would be able to continue. But after a few pitches, his outing was done -- and its possible his season could be over as well. "It just tightened up on me," Masterson (14-10) said. "I went out to throw and it was like, Oh, boy. I couldnt get through a pitch. I was trying to sink em in there, but it wasnt going to work." Masterson will undergo an MRI and other tests Tuesday. Those results could determine whether the Indians will continue to battle for one of two playoff spots. "Hopefully its nothing serious," All-Star second baseman Jason Kipnis said. "Definitely love to have the big fella out there for us. Hes our ace." Bud Norris (10-10) stayed unbeaten as a starter with Baltimore and Nate McLouth homered and had three RBIs as the Orioles moved 1 1/2 games ahead of the Indians in the wild-card standings. Norris allowed one run -- a homer to Kipnis in the seventh -- and four hits in seven innings. The right-hander improved to 4-0 in seven starts with the Orioles, who acquired him at the July 31 trading deadline from Houston. Matt Wieters hit a two-run homer in the ninth and Brian Roberts drove in two runs for the Orioles, who didnt take any satisfaction in not having to face Masterson for more than two innings. "You hate to see that," McLouth said. "I feel really bad for him. He can go through stretches of a game where hes so dominant. It does make a difference." Masterson said its possible he could only miss a few days and that some rest will help. However, he also realizes the tests could reveal something more significant. "Its not the best-case scenario," he said. "So if it is any more serious than I think it is, we have some good guys in place that can do a lot of work. Were hoping things will be all right. We have a lot of guys coming up who can help out and do a good job. "I think youre going to see the guys really battle over the next 25 games that we got. "Thats going to show up whether Im here or not." With just one month left, the Indians arent going to take any chances with Masterson, their leader in wins, innings and just about everything else. "Its hard to quantify," Indians manager Terry Francona said when asked about Mastersons value. "Hes our best pitcher. But when things dont go your way, you can either feel sorry for yourselves or you can find a way to shine. I hope that we are able to come back, whether it takes everybody in the bullpen or guys on the bench, keep fighting. "Thats the best way to do it." After dropping two of three in Boston and New York, the Orioles, who staggered through a 12-14 August, arrived in Cleveland needing to string some wins together. "I knew that schedule was going to be a challenge," manager Buck Showalter said before the game. "Were .500 in our last 10 games. Is it half full or half empty?" Norris provided some more optimism, striking out eight and keeping his record unblemished in seven starts since joining Baltimore. He allowed just one hit through five innings, and picked Michael Brantley off second in the second. The Indians are sliding in the wrong direction. They went 1-5 on a trip to Atlanta and Detroit, only salvaging the finale Sunday thanks to a ninth-inning grand slam by Mike Aviles to beat the Tigers. Masterson initially showed discomfort while working to Wieters leading off the second. He grimaced and flared his elbow at his side, a motion that sent Francona to the mound accompanied by a trainer. The right-hander stayed in the game, but after allowing a single to Wieters, he threw an 87 mph fastball to Nick Markakis and paused. Catcher Carlos Santana headed to the mound and shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera immediately waved toward the dugout, bringing Francona again. He took the ball from Masterson, who dejectedly walked off the field and then disgustedly tossed a cup of water in the dugout before heading to the clubhouse. "There wasnt any pull or anything like that that Im aware of," Masterson said. "Were going to get a few more things checked out over the next couple days." Preston Guilmet replaced Masterson and gave up a single to Markakis. With one out, McLouth hit an apparent RBI double to centre. However, the Indians won an appeal that Markakis missed second base, and under rule 10.05, McLouth was not awarded a hit on the play because it was a forceout. After Guilmet walked No. 9 hitter Alexi Casilla, Roberts hit a two-run double to make it 3-0. NOTES: Indians RHP Corey Kluber, sidelined since Aug. 6 with a sprained middle finger, will pitch in relief Friday after Scott Kazmir starts against the Mets. Kluber pitched a simulated game Monday, and because he hasnt pitched in some time, the Indians want to be conservative with him. Also, the club is concerned about overworking Kazmir. "I think it has a chance to help us win, help both pitchers and help the bullpen," Francona said. ... Indians OF Ryan Raburn is expected to be activated Tuesday after being sidelined with a pulled calf muscle. ... With his next homer, Hardy will become the fourth active shortstop and ninth since 1901 to record three or more seasons with 25 or more homers. DaRon Payne Redskins Jersey . DETROIT - The Detroit Lions began the homestand that could make or break their season with the type of offensive performance their fans have been waiting for.Matthew Stafford threw for 390 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Calvin Johnson, and the Lions beat the Chicago Bears 34-17 on Thursday. Johnson had 11 catches for 146 yards in perhaps his best performance of the season.Detroit gained a season-high 474 yards in its highest-scoring game since a 35-point showing in the season opener against the New York Giants. We came home and handled business. Thats what we wanted, centre Dominic Raiola said. Were in a good spot right now but we know theres a lot of work ahead. After losing at Arizona and New England and falling out of first place in the NFC North, the Lions (8-4) began a three-game stretch at home against teams with losing records. They spotted Chicago a 14-3 first-quarter lead before scoring three consecutive touchdowns in the second.Chicago (5-7) looked sharp early on, but with no running game to speak of against Detroits defensive front, the Bears quickly gave away their early lead.We just didnt do enough and it starts with me, coach Marc Trestman said. Im looking inside and am accepting accountability for this loss, obviously. We just couldnt get it done today and didnt have enough ammunition to stop them or continue drives. The Lions have won back-to-back games on Thanksgiving after losing their previous nine. They beat Green Bay 40-10 last year.A lot was expected of Stafford this season, especially after the arrival of coach Jim Caldwell, who took over in January. The 26-year-old quarterback has put up fairly ordinary numbers in 2014, but he was very good Thursday.Hopefully, this game gives us some confidence and gives us a little bit of momentum, Stafford said. We played fast today, guys were in and out of the huddle ... dictate to the defence what the pace of the game was going to be. Thats all great, but if you dont execute it doesnt work. Here are a few things we learned from Detroits impressive win:MEGATRONS MARK: Johnson surpassed 10,000 yards receiving in his 115th game, becoming the fastest to reach that mark. More importantly, his big game quieted some concerns that he was slowing down. Johnson missed a month with an ankle injury earlier this season and was held under 60 yards in back-to-back games before Thursdays breakthrough.STOPPING THE RUN: Chicago barely even tried to establish Matt Forte on the ground. The star running back finished with 6 yards on five carries, and the Bears only managed 13 yards rushing as a team.PASS RUSH: The Lions offensive line has been a weak spot at times this year, and the Bears took advantage of that early when Jared Allen sacked Stafford, forced a fumble and recovered it at the Detroit 5. That set up the touchdown that put Chicago ahead 14-3.SHORT YARDAGE: Joique Bell scored on a pair of 1-yard runs for Detroit, including one on fourth down in the second quarter that gave the Lions a 17-14 lead. Bell leaped high in the air and extended the ball, just barely reaching the goal line.Bell finished with 91 yards on 23 carries and was the only Detroit player with any rushing attempts. Reggie Bush sat out a third straight game with an ankle injury. We stuck to it, Bell said. Thats the run game, thats the NFL for you. We keep pounding and pounding and eventually something is going to open up, and we were able to make some big runs toward the end.BROTHERS: It was an interesting Thanksgiving in the Fuller family. Detroit receiver Corey Fuller was facing his brother, Chicago defensive back Kyle Fuller.Corey Fuller caught one pass for 21 yards, and after the play, Kyle Fuller came over and playfully knocked the ball out of his hands.___AP NFL website: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL Dillon Brooks Jersey . Shareef Abdur-Rahim Jersey . -- Keith Aulie has joined the Tampa Bay Lightning. Allen Iverson Jersey . On Monday night, many fans in this city placed the blame squarely on the captain for his role in the James Neal overtime winner against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Toronto Maple Leafs "stumbled on" Connor Brown a few years ago and are pleased with their discovery. The Erie Otters captain was named the Ontario Hockey Leagues most outstanding player for 2013-14 on Tuesday. Brown led the league in scoring and set a franchise record with 45 goals and 83 assists in 68 games. Chosen near the bottom of both his OHL and NHL drafts, the 20-year-old Toronto forward has played himself into a strong pro prospect. He was the 251st pick out of 301 players four years ago in the OHL draft. The Leafs chose him in the sixth round, 156th overall, in 2012. His buddy Matt Finn, captain of the Guelph Storm and a fellow Leafs prospect, recently said "With Connor, its always been about proving people wrong." But Brown says his motivation is more about the pursuit of his dream than spite. "I definitely dont think much has come easy, being late picks in both drafts," he acknowledged during a conference call. "Its just more incentive to work hard. "I think I wanted to work hard not to prove people wrong, but I know I needed to work harder to have a shot at signing an NHL contract and having a shot at making the NHL one day." Brown has signed a three-year, entry level contract with the Leafs. He caught their eye in 2011 when scouts went to Erie, Pa., to evaluate Leafs prospect Sondre Olden. "Each time we went down to watch this Maple Leaf pick, wed stumble on Connor Brown," Leafs director of player Jim Hughes said. "Erie was having a difficult year and the scores, the deficits, never changed Connors desire, never changed his moods during the course of the game. "He was always focused and it didnt matter if he was winning 5-1 or losing 5-1, his personality never changed. He always played for the love of the game. He always played with passion. We obviously have big plans for Connor moving forward." Brown led Erie to the best season in its 18-year history with 52 wins and 106 points. The Otters lost this years Western Conference final to Guelph in five games. Brown had eight goals and 10 assists in 14 playoff games. The five-foot-11 170-pound right-winger is currently practising with Torontos American Hockey League team -- the Marlies -- at the MasterCard Centre.dddddddddddd He intends to spend most of the summer there building strength and working on his skating skills with former Canadian pairs figure skater Barb Underhill. Hughes says Brown needs time to develop "man-strength." "Come September, I think my game and my physical state, I think Ill be ready to play with better and stronger players," Brown said. Brown is the first Otter to win the OHL scoring title and the second to earn the Red Tilson Trophy as league MVP after Brad Boyes in both 2001 and 2002. The trophy is named in honour of Albert (Red) Tilson, who was a former Oshawa General killed in action during the Second World War. Brown led the league in power-play points with 54 and carried a plus-minus of plus-44 through the regular season. In a poll of Western Conference coaches, he was voted the best in a shootout, second in penalty killing and third in the smartest player category. "Whoever is preparing to play hockey anywhere, will not outwork Connor Brown and his will to prepare," Otters general manager Sherry Bassin said. "Whatever work ethic is necessary, whatever that measurement is, hell do more." Media members vote on the award and Brown was the clear winner with 321 points tabulated from 80 ballots. Oshawa Generals centre Scott Laughton was the runner-up with 120 points and top NHL draft prospect Sam Bennett of the Kingston Frontenacs was third with 68. Previous winners include New York Islanders forward John Tavares (Oshawa, 2007), Nashville Predators defenceman Ryan Ellis (Windsor, 2011) and Florida Panthers defenceman Brian Campbell (Ottawa, 1999). Vincent Trochek, the centre who won the award last year with the Plymouth Whalers, split this past season between the Panthers and their AHL team in San Antonio, Texas. Brown is the OHLs candidate for the Canadian Hockey Leagues player of the year. Hell be up against Sam Reinhart of the Western Hockey Leagues Kootenay Ice and Anthony Mantha of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey Leagues Val-dOr Foreurs. THUNDER BAY, Ont. - The Staal name is well-known in hockey circles, but this summer it will be associated with a different sport. The Staal Family Foundation, a charity founded by brothers Eric, Jordan, Marc and Jared Staal, has signed a three-year agreement to become the title sponsor of PGA Tour Canadas Thunder Bay Golf Classic. The event, which debuts July 14 at the Whitewater Golf Club, will be known as the Staal Foundation Open presented by TbayTel. "When we heard PGA Tour Canada was coming to Thunder Bay, we jumped at the chance to attach our name to the event," said Eric Staal, captain of the NHLs Carolina Hurricanes. "Its going to be a really exciting week of sport and entertainment and we think the Staal Family Foundation is a great fit. "We love our hometown, and just like PGA Tour Canada, were passionate about family, charity and our community." Jordan and Jared Staal are also members of the Hurricanes organization, while Marc Staal is a defenceman with the New York Rangers. Joe Montana Jersey . Kaleta was issued the ban by NHL senior vice president of player safety Brendan Shanahan nine days ago, for his actions in a game against Columbus on Oct. 10. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman heard Kaletas case at league offices in New York on Monday, and issued a 17-page ruling explaining his actions on Thursday. "I do not credit Mr. Kaletas testimony that he tried ducking out of the check. To the contrary, the video evidence demonstrates that Mr. Kaleta followed through on the check and made no attempt to avoid it," said Bettman in a release Thursday. Kaleta was originally unpenalized for his hit to the head on Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson during the early stages of an eventual 4-1 Columbus victory, but the hit did not escape notice at the league office. "Back-checking through the middle, Kaleta approaches Johnson from the side and finishes a check directly to Johnsons head. Although Johnson is eligible to be checked, Kaleta takes an improper angle, misses Johhnsons body and does not make a full check," said Shanahan in his video explanation of the rationale behind the ban.dddddddddddd "Its important to note, that no matter who delivered this hit, it would have resulted in supplemental discipline. However, the fact that it was delivered by a player who has been fined or suspended six times in the last four seasons, factors heavily into the severity of the decision." The 26-year-old winger drew a five-game suspension for an early March incident against Brad Richards of the New York Rangers after having been previously suspended multiple games on three prior occasions. "I have concluded, based on my review of the matter that there is clear and convincing evidence to support Mr. Shanahans determination that a 10-game suspension is the appropriate penalty in this case," added Bettman. "My conclusion is based both on the nature of the violation and, even more significantly, on Mr. Kaletas prior disciplinary record." Kaleta will be forced to forfeit $152,439 in salary, which goes into the Players Emergency Assistance Fund. RENO, Nev. - John E. Williams III has been a San Francisco 49ers fan since John Brodie was throwing touchdown passes at Candlestick Park in the 1970s. So he was excited about the prospects of scoring a ticket to make the trip to Seattle in January to watch the rivals battle in the NFC Championship Game. But the Las Vegas man says in a $50 million lawsuit against the NFL that his hopes were dashed by the league and others he accuses of engaging in "economic discrimination" with an illegal ticket policy limiting credit-card sales to selected pro-Seattle markets. His lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas says it was part of an effort to keep 49er fans away and further promote the Seahawks boisterous home-field advantage at CenturyLink Field. "Theyre always boasting up there about their 12th player and everything else," Williams told The Associated Press on Friday. "But by allowing the NFL to decide who can or cannot attend the games, you make it an unfair game. Seattle fixed it." Williams, who works as a promoter in the entertainment industry, said that because the NFL relies heavily on public subsidies and money from taxpayers to build stadiums. it should not be allowed to deny ticket sales to individuals on the basis they are "not from an area determined by the team — or the NFL — to be fan of that team." "The practice of withholding the sale of tickets from the public at large and allowing only credit card holders limited to certain areas is a violation of the Federal Consumer Fraud Act and/or common law," according to the lawsuit filed April 15. In the case of Januarys game, the Seahawks limited ticket sales only to credit cards with addresses in the states of Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii, as well as the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. As a result, he said, he suffered "economic discrimination and violation of public accommodation solely" because his credit card was not issued in the restrictive states or Canada — "which is not even part of the United States." "This selected process is contrary to the spirit of the NFL and contrary to public accommodation," said Williams, who is seeking $10 million in punitive damages on top of $40 million in real damages. Brian McCarthy, the NFLs vice-president of communications, said the league has no comment on the lawsuit. Officials for California-based Ticketmaster, which is now part of Live Nation Entertainment Inc., and the Seattle Seahawks did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Williams said he had made up his mind that if San Francisco beat the Carolina Panthers in a semifinal game, he was going to buy tickets to the NFC title game in Seattle for himself, his roommate, a girlfriend who lives in Canada and her daughter. San Francisco beat Carolina 23-10, then lost at Seattle 23-17. "I live in Las Vegas, but Im originally from San Francisco. Ive seen John Brodie back in the day, and Joe Montana. I really wanted to go up there to see the Niners," Williams said. "I think the tickets should be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, not based on who they want in the crowd." Now a date with former champion Renan Barao. Its been a good month for Canadian bantamweight Mitch Gagnon. The 30-year-old from Sudbury, Ont., moved into the UFC rankings at No. 15 among 135-pound contenders after his Oct. 4 first-round stoppage of Roman Salazar in Halifax. It was his fourth straight win in the UFC. It was also his 10th first-round finish and 11th win by submission. The victory earned him a Dec. 20 matchup with Barao in the co-main event of a televised UFC Fight Night card in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The main event features middleweights Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida and C.B. (The Doberman) Dollaway.I didnt expect it was going to be Renan Barao but I knew I was going to get a top-10 fighter like I asked, Gagnon (12-2) said in an interview Thursday.Im up for it, man. I cant wait to get in there and prove a lot of these fans wrong.Barao (34-2 with one no contest) is ranked No. 1 among bantamweight contenders. For the 27-year Barao, its his first outing since May when he lost the 135-pound title to T.J. Dillashaw. The Brazilian was slated to face Dillashaw in an August rematch, but was pulled from the bout on the day of the weigh-in after falling and hitting his head while trying to cut weight. The Dillashaw loss ended a 33-fight, nine-year win streak for the Brazilian.Im not delusional. Hes one of the pound-for-pound greats in the world, said Gagnon.I know Ive got my work cut out for me but these are the types of fights I want ... this is where I want to test myself, he added.Gagnon, who has never fought outside of Caanada, is looking forward to seeing Brazil.dddddddddddd He will get his first taste of it in two weeks to help hype the fight.I always wanted to travel to fight. This is my opportunity to do so, so Im super-excited for it.Gagnon said he took a week off after the Halifax win, ate some turkey, relaxed with his fiancee and now is looking forward to resuming training. He has won 10 of his last 11 bouts.Gagnon lost his UFC debut to Bryan Caraway in July 2012 but still earned a US$65,000 fight of the night bonus. The five-foot-five 135-pounder subsequently scored first-round submissions of Walel Watson and Dustin Kimura before winning a decision over Tim Gorman. Gagnons guillotine choke win over Kimura at UFC 165 in Toronto earned him a $50,000 bonus for submission of the night. That fight showed Gagnons heart. He survived a painful Kimura body shot and rallied for the win when Kimura passed out from a guillotine choke after Gagnon stuffed a takedown attempt. He gave up six inches in height to Watson but floored him with a left and then locked in a rear-naked choke for a 69-second win at UFC 152. Gagnon sat out a year after the Watson fight due to knee surgery.Gagnons cauliflower ears attest to an extensive grappling background. You dont get that ear playing tennis, UFC commentator Joe Rogan said dryly prior to the Kimura fight.Gagnon, a former wrestler who took up MMA training some seven years ago, trains for his fights in the Toronto area.He walks around at about 155 pounds, hitting 165 if I let myself go a little bit.———Follow @NeilMDavidson on Twitter Cheap Bills Jerseys Authentic Dolphins Jerseys Cheap Patriots Store Cyber Monday Jets Jerseys Cyber Monday Texans Jerseys Black Friday Colts Jerseys Cheap Jaguars Jerseys Cheap Titans Store Black Friday Broncos Jerseys Cheap Chiefs Jerseys Cheap Raiders Jerseys Authentic Chargers Jerseys Cheap Ravens Store Black Friday Steelers Jerseys Black Friday Cowboys Jerseys Cheap Giants Store Cheap Eagles Store Black Friday Redskins Jerseys Falcons Jerseys Online Panthers Jerseys Online Authentic Saints Jerseys Cheap Buccaneers Jerseys Authentic Cardinals Jerseys Black Friday 49ers Jerseys Black Friday Seahawks Jerseys Cyber Monday Rams Jerseys Black Friday Bears Jerseys Wholesale Lions Jerseys Packers Jerseys Online Authentic Vikings Jerseys Cyber Monday Bengals Jerseys Cyber Monday Browns Jerseys ' ' '

took a few steps away as several security guards

MILWAUKEE -- The fan wanted a hug. Derek Jeter just wanted to get out of the way. Jeter calmly eluded a fan that tried to meet him in the sixth inning of the New York Yankees 5-3 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. Masahiro Tanaka pitched into the seventh and Yangervis Solarte hit a three-run homer for the Yankees, who have won three straight and four of six. It was New Yorks first game in Milwaukee since 2005, and it took a surprising turn when a guy jumped out of the left-field stands and walked briskly toward Jeter at shortstop in the sixth inning. Jeter didnt appear to notice the fan at first. Jeter, who plans to retire after this season, took a few steps away as several security guards rushed in to tackle the person. Jeter said the guy, who was wearing a Ryan Braun jersey and white bandana, didnt appear threatening. "His face was calm," Jeter said. "He was saying he wanted a hug. I was thinking I wasnt going to hug him. That was pretty much it. It happened pretty quick. I didnt even see him until he got past the third-base line." Jeter warned the guy he had made a big mistake. "I told him, Youre going to get in trouble," Jeter said. "Then he repeated that he wanted a hug. I said, Look out." Thats when several security guards flattened the guy and then hauled him away. "If you saw his face, he wasnt coming out there with anger," Jeter said. "So, no, I wasnt scared." But Yankees manager Joe Girardi was worried about Jeter. "I was like, Derek, move," Girardi said. "Derek just kind of stood there. Obviously, he didnt feel threatened. Its not what you want because you never know what people are up to. Its an unfortunate part of the game." Tanaka (5-0) allowed two runs and seven hits in his first interleague game. The Japanese right-hander struck out seven and walked one. Tanaka also struck out in each of his first three major league at-bats. Yovani Gallardo (2-2) matched Tanaka pitch for pitch until New York scored four times in the fourth on four hits, highlighted by Solartes second home run of the season. Carlos Beltran walked and Brian McCann singled before Solarte hit Gallardos first pitch, a cutter, over the right-field wall. "Thats whats frustrating about this game," Gallardo said. "You have to stay away from the big inning." Solarte leads the Yankees with 18 RBIs. He signed a minor league deal in January and then played his way onto the major league club with a strong spring training. "Hes obviously had a great first five or six weeks," Girardi said. "Hes played well and he deserves to be out there." The Yankees tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning. Beltran hit a leadoff double against Brandon Kintzler, and Ichiro Suzuki then came in to run. Suzuki stole third and scored on Mark Teixeiras roller down the first-base line, making it 5-2. The Brewers got on the board in the sixth. Carlos Gomez and Scooter Gennett started the inning with consecutive doubles, and Jonathan Lucroy followed with an RBI single. Tanaka then got Aramis Ramirez to ground into a double play and struck out Mark Reynolds. Gallardo was impressed with Tanaka. "He kept the ball down in the zone and he was moving the ball around," Gallardo said. "He was pretty good at keeping our guys off balance." Adam Warren took over for Tanaka after he put runners on the corners in the seventh. Warren struck out pinch-hitter Lyle Overbay and Logan Schafer was cut down while trying to steal second. David Robertson allowed Reynolds sixth homer in the ninth, but struck out the side for his sixth save. Milwaukee has lost three straight and seven of nine since getting off to a hot start. The Brewers are playing without Ryan Braun, who has been sidelined by a right oblique strain. NOTES: Gomezs appeal hearing of his three-game suspension for a bench-clearing brawl in Pittsburgh on April 20 was Friday. It went OK, according to what manager Ron Roenicke heard in the clubhouse. "They should have a decision here in a few days," he said. ... The Miller Park roof was open for the first time in 19 games this season. ... Jeter received a loud round of applause from the near sellout crowd of 40,123 when the starting lineup was announced and again when he batted in the first. Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi, The Leafs/Canadiens game Saturday night was very entertaining, right up until the penalty in overtime against Bernier and the Leafs. Can you please explain what Bernier did wrong to be awarded that penalty in OT? Thanks,Brad Mains ----- Kerry, In the game last night - Leafs and Habs - the ref called a penalty on Bernier for delay of game in OT. I know it is a rule in the books, but has not been called, IMO, very much. It is the rule, but my question is this - Was calling it OT a fair thing to do? I realize the ref was damned if did and damned if not! What is your take on this. Cheers! Ray Bungay ----- Kerry: In the Toronto - Montreal game, there was a penalty handed to Bernier of Toronto for Delay of game for coming out of his net and smothering the puck with a Montreal player right there. This seems an unusual if not unnecessary call, given it was in the overtime. I have never seen this before. What is the basis for the call? Your views would be helpful. Ted Baskerville ----- Hi Kerry,The Leafs Habs game Saturday night, the overtime penalty assessed to Bernier. I have seen many goalies cover the puck well outside their crease, I asked a goalie friend of mine and he said he was taught as long as the goalie can reach or has some part of himself in the crease it can be covered outside of the crease. Is this a rule? I believe Bernier was still in the crease when he dove at the puck then slid for another couple of feet. Was that the right call or am I just another bitter Leafs fan. Thanks,Chris Stevens Brad, Ray, Ted and Chris: I dont want to add fuel to the "bitterness" some Leafs fans might feel or even demonstrate on occasion but the delay of game penalty that Jonathan Bernier was assessed in the overtime loss to the Canadiens on Saturday was a must call for the referee to make regardless of the score or the time remaining in the game! In every case, when a goalkeeper skates out of his net and covers on a loose puck that far from his crease a delay of game penalty should be assessed as per the rule. This infraction committted by the goalkeeper should applied with the same consistency as the puck over glass rule that we saw called against Peter Budaj (8:31 of first period) and Phil Kessel with just 31 seconds remaining in regulation time.dddddddddddd From Rule 63.2: A minor penalty shall be imposed on any player, including the goalkeeper, who holds, freezes or plays the puck with his stick, skates or body in such a manner as to deliberately cause a stoppage of play. With regard to a goalkeeper, this rule applies outside of his goal crease area. If a goalkeeper comes out of his crease to "cut down the angle" on a shot and after making the save covers the puck, this shall be legal. If the goalkeeper races out of his crease in an attempt to beat the attacking player to the puck and instead of playing the puck jumps on the puck causing a stoppage of play, this shall be a minor penalty for delay of game. The long stretch pass that PK Subban fired near the Habs goal line was too hot for Daniel Briere to handle cleanly at the Leafs blue line and created a race for a loose puck with Bernier on the potential scoring opportunity. A scoring opportunity was clearly eliminated when Bernier got to the puck first and covered it with his glove to cause a stoppage in play as opposed to legally playing the puck with his goal stick. The referee whistled the play dead and raised his arms in an upward fashion but did not immediately or emphatically signal a penalty to Bernier as he should have. A slower, perhaps methodical response by the ref was evident in both the camera shot and the minute of run-on commentary by the broadcasters before it became evident to them that a penalty to Bernier had been assessed. While you have never seen this penalty called Ted, I can assure you that I personally assessed it a number of times during my 30-year NHL officiating career. Whenever I had the occasion to make this call I did so immediately with an emphatic signal so there was no doubt or confusion in anyones mind that a penalty was assessed to the goalkeeper in this unique situation. Jonathan Bernier clearly violated rule 63.2 at 3:14 of the overtime period. The correct call was made by the referee and resulted in Max Paciorettys eventual power play game-winning goal. CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kemba Walker is beginning to emerge as the multifaceted point guard the Charlotte Hornets hoped he would become.Walker is off to the best start of his four-year career, entering the week third in the NBA in assist-per-turnover ratio. He did little to hurt those numbers on Monday night. Walker scored 18 points, handed out nine assists and committed just one turnover as the Hornets coasted to a 110-82 victory over the Denver Nuggets.Growing up, I have always been turnover-prone because I was always playing at one speed, Walker said. Now Im trying to mix up my speeds and make the right passes.Walker has 161 assists on the season to 41 turnovers, nearly a 4 to 1 ratio which ranks behind only Chris Paul and J.J. Barea.I want to take care of the basketball, Walker said. Its really important and something Im trying to be conscious of this year because when we dont turn it over it gives us a higher percentage of winning games.Hornets coach Steve Clifford said Walker is developing into one of the leagues better pick-and-roll point guards.Hes in the paint in every pick-and-roll, Clifford said. And he can score, but hes (also) kicking the ball out to teammates.Al Jefferson shook off some early tightness in his lower body and scored 22 points for the Hornets, who extended their winning streak to a season-high three games. Rookie P.J. Hairston recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.Jefferson and Walker combined to shoot 15 of 25 from the field and neither player saw action in the fourth quarter with the game well in hand.Charlotte improved to 3-0 since Gerald Henderson replaced the injured Lance Stephenson in the starting lineup. Stephenson, who has been the subject of trade rumours, is out at least one more game with a groin injury. While the Hornets appear to be playing their best basketball without Stephenson, Clifford said the challenge is to work the teams big-name free agent acquisition into the mix and become even better.Im looking at it and saying as talented as he is, what we can we become playing like this with him playing well also? Clifford said. And also what things are good that he can add to the team and who should he be on the floor with? Thats what we have to figure out.Ty Lawson had 18 points for Denver, which had its two-game winning streak snapped. This one was never close. The Hornets took control early, building a 58-40 lead at halftime behind 57 per cent shooting from the field. Jefferson and Walker led the way, combining to go 12 of 16 from the field for 32 points before the break. With no scoring option to complement Lawson, the Nuggets never mounted a serious comeback attempt in the second half. The Hornets emptied the bench midway through the fourth quarter up by 30 points.I dont know what to say, Nuggets coach Brian Shaw said. You have eyes, you saw it. It was an ugly, nasty game. We just have to flush it down the toilet.___TIP-INSNuggets: Timofey Mozgov suffered a laceration to his left eye during the first quarter and received four stitches. He returned to the game but only played 15 minutes.Hornets: Jeffery Taylor saw his first action of the season following a 24-game suspension. Taylor was rusty, misfiring twice from the field. He also clanked free throw attempts.JEFFERSON SCAREClifford took Jefferson out of the game as a precaution five minutes in after the 6-foot-10 didnt leave his feet on a baseline move and threw up an airball. Jefferson said he simply was tight.Clifford said he wanted to be sure, adding, Im into challenges, but Im not into playing a month without him.UP NEXTNuggets: At Brooklyn on Tuesday night.Hornets: At Milwaukee on Tuesday night.
